The Commanders lost a hard one tonight at the eagles. It was a rough one. Jayden Daniels, the star rookie not only looked like a rookie but he also looked injured. The offensive play calling seemed suspect. The receivers couldn’t get open. The offensive line, especially Brandon Coleman had a really rough game.
But you know what, the Commanders are still 7-4 through week 11. Something that they haven’t done since [before ESPN tracked stats]. They just had a short week into a road divisional game, against one of the best teams in the league. As much as it hurts to admit the Eagles defensive has looked like the best in the league during the last four weeks. Jayden Daniel is still obviously in pain, and instead of a bye week he got a short week.
The Commanders next three games include the Cowboys, who will be starting Cooper Rush, the Tennessee Titans, and the New Orleans Saints. We get our bye week after the Titans game, a bye week that has never seemed more necessary. All three of these teams are teams that that the Commanders should be able to put down, especially saying that the Commanders have beat every team that they ‘should’ have so far.
Also, it isn’t completely uncommon for very good football teams to have a little bit of a pitfall during weeks 9-14. Kansas City went 1-3 in weeks 11-14 last year, and then went on to win the Super Bowl. In 2021 the Rams had a three game losing streak during the weeks 9-12, and then went on to win the Super Bowl. I mean football is a game of streaks, and with a week 14 bye the Commanders have the recipe to turn it around.
Now I’m not going to say that the Commanders are going to win the Super Bowl because I think we have seen so far through the season that the Commanders can not get passed good teams. Which happens to be who you play against ever week on the path to the Super Bowl. But I am saying, don’t give up hope in the guys. Daniels will be fine, hopefully he can take the next 10 days until the Cowboys game and really rehab his ribs. We still haven’t even seen Marshon Lattimore in action yet. We have a clear path to the playoffs in the next three games, and then our season ends with us playing a Cowboys team that should be fully invested in the tank.
And you know what? Even if we loses 5 out of our last 6 games and end with a below .500 record. We still have Jayden Daniels next year, we still have Terry McLaurin, we have Marshon Lattimore next year, we have over 100 million dollars to work with in free agency. We have a good amount of draft picks.
Realistically we are overachieving extremely hard this year. I mean on paper this roster doesn’t even look like a top 20 team. So yes, we will probably struggle when we play against a great defense, yes we will probably have an extremely hard time slowing down great offenses. But we are on the right path, something that hasn’t been true in the last twenty years.
So don’t be detoured to pack the arena vs the Cowboys on Sunday, and don’t stop believing in our boys.
